Introduction to NeuroStar
While most psychiatric patients are familiar with psychotherapy and medications, they may not be as familiar with TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) Psychiatry. TMS is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate the brain to improve symptoms of depression and OCD. Clinical trials are also underway for additional brain disorders. TMS is typically used when other treatments have proven to be ineffective for mental health patients.
What Patients Experience During TMS Sessions
Patient talk about their experience with NeuroStar TMS therapy. Patients typically hear a tapping sound and feel a tapping sensation in the head area. To diminish the sound, the patient is provided with earplugs. Some patients experience temporary, mild pain or discomfort in the area of the treatment site, which occurs during the treatment session. This typically occurs only during the first week. Other side effects may include muscle twitching and jaw pain.
